Data Storage Unit Converter

Convert digital storage values between bits, bytes, and decimal or binary storage units.

Binary units are commonly used by operating systems and memory measurements:
1 KiB = 1,024 bytes.

Decimal units are commonly used by storage manufacturers and network speeds:
1 KB = 1,000 bytes.

How This Converter Works

Converts nonnegative decimal values among bits, bytes, SI decimal units, and IEC binary units using the selected unit system.

Formula or rule

Each unit has a factor measured in bits: decimal prefixes use powers of 1000, binary prefixes powers of 1024, and bytes multiply the corresponding bit factor by 8. Result=value×sourceFactor/targetFactor, formatted to 12 significant digits.

Example

Input
1 KiB to bytes, binary system
Calculation
KiB factor is 8192 bits and byte factor is 8 bits; 1×8192/8 = 1024.
Result
1024
